Dirt...Rocks...Progress!

We visited the property on March 11th. This is basically what the view will look like from our deck once the house is done.

And this is roughly the same view on March 23rd!

Steve is standing in what will be the walk-out basement. In just one week, our contractor and his crew have moved LOTS of dirt and rock. (We're grateful the rock they've encountered hasn't been too stubborn.) Brush has been removed and the driveway is rough cut. We met our neighbors from across the street and next door tonight. Nice people!

More updates to come...

Moving Forward

As you can see from the photos, Treehouse Log Homes is moving forward with crafting our log home. The bulldozer and excavation equipment are being delivered to the site tomorrow. If the rain in the forecast doesn't get in the way, we should actually START CONSTRUCTION THIS WEEK! Our log stack is scheduled for May and is listed on the log home company's web site: https://www.treehouseloghomes.com/indexs.html
If you're interested, you can even register for Treehouse to send you updates on our log stack!

Some of you have asked where the log home is being built. To be accurate, it's being built in Salem, Oregon! They build it, label it, dismantle it, truck it to our site, and then reassemble it. Our property is in Garden Valley which is off of Highway 49 in between Auburn and Placerville. You can go to the link below and search for "Garden Valley" to get a map as well as a cool satellite view. http://maps.google.com/

The church we're attending is in Auburn and is about 30 minutes from our apartment, as well as 30 minutes from the house. If you're interested in checking out Sierra Grace Fellowship's web page, here's the link: http://www.sierragrace.org/

Well, I guess three links in one blog is plenty! We'll keep you updated on our progress.

Beginnings...

First of all, you may be wondering about the whole "Cabana de la Cruz" thing. Well, we're having a log CABIN (Cabana) built and our last name is CROSS (Cruz) so, there ya' go! We hope the translation from English to Spanish is correct. We know there's supposed to be a ~ above the n, but haven't figured out how to do that. If you know how, you'll have to let us know!

We got the first photos from the log home company showing the beginnings or our logs being crafted. We also got our construction permits last week and our contractor will break ground soon...as soon as the ground is dry. So, now that things are really beginning, it seemed like a good time to begin a blog. My goal is update this weekly. Bear with me as this is new stuff!

Be praying for us. We know it's a long, uphill, and (hopefully) joyful road ahead.
